Transformational Engagement: Unpacking the Rise in Loneliness (up 300%) in the West!

The age of individuality is ending as a failed experiment in transcending our natural and innate need to function as units. We are now entering the age of collaborative achievement or transformational engagement.

According to a survey conducted by BBC, loneliness is up 300 percent over the last 10 years and it is the highest between youth between the ages of 16-24.

The mental, emotional, and biological impact of loneliness can be catastrophic with there being a direct association between chronic loneliness and depression.

While we are connected more than ever on a digital level, we are learning that that is not sufficient to serve our internal yearning to belong.

According to one study, loneliness is worse than obesity and equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes per day (that is more than two cartons a month).

We are at our best when we share experiences, hopes, and aspirations with those whose life’s meanings intersect with our own.

We have confused the means with the ends by gauging our successes by our things and accomplishment instead of our state of being. The things that have the greatest and most powerful impact are intangible at the core (internal).
